| Q. | What file formats does Focus Magic support ? |
| A. | The Stand-Alone version only supports JPG files, but the Photoshop plug-in supports the file formats that Photoshop (or other supported programs such as Paint Shop Pro, etc) supports. |
| Q. | What can I use in Focus Magic before I need to register ? |
| A. | You can use all the features available in Focus Magic on up to ten images. After that you will need to register. |
| Q. | Doesn't Photoshop do all that stuff ? |
| A. | It does have Unsharp Mask but it doesn't work nearly as well. See comparison. |
| Q. | What is new in version 3.0 ? |
| A. | Focus Magic now also handles Motion Blur natively and runs a lot faster. |
| Q. | How does it work ? |
| A. | Focus Magic reverses the way the image got out of focus. We can't give out a detailed explanation because we need to protect our investment. |
| Q. | Could you make it run faster ? |
| A. | There is an enormous amount of number crunching that needs to be done to re-focus an image. We have done our best to make it run as fast as possible. |
| Q. | What versions of Windows does it run on ? |
| A. | Focus Magic runs on all versions of Windows from Windows 95 to Windows 7 (32-bit editions only). See Vista support notes. |
| Q. | What hardware does it need ? |
| A. | It is recommended to run
it on a minimum of a 500 Mhz machine with 128 MB of memory. The faster your machine the
better. If you are running Focus Magic as a plug-in using Photoshop or another program, it needs about 6 bytes per pixel per color in 8bit mode, or 12 bytes per pixel per color in 16bit mode. So for example, if you have an image that is 4" x 5" scanned in color (3 colors) at 300dpi, the size of the image will be 1200 x 1500 pixels and the amount of memory required will be 1200 x 1500 x 6 x 3 = 32Mb (for an 8bit image). If however you choose to scan in the image with a very high resolution (3000 dpi), the memory requirements will increase to 3200Mb. |
| Q. | What percentage of photographs can Focus Magic enhance ? |
| A. | Softness is introduced to images during digitizing from the very nature of the digitizing process. Continuous graduations of color and tone are converted into points on a regular sampling grid. Detail that is finer than the sampling frequency is "averaged" into the pixels, softening the overall appearance. This means that nearly all photographs can be enhanced with Focus Magic, even if it is only with a blur width of one. |
